ABC Council Award for School Environmental Team

15th Dec 2020

The Environmental Team at St Patricks were successful in their recent video application for one of the awards in the ABC Council Take500 Community Scheme. The project named Earthwise entails bringing back nature to the school environment both for the physical and mental well-being of staff and students and to enhance knowledge and understanding of our natural world.

So far, we have planted flower boxes and hanging baskets at the school entrance and improved the glass corridor courtyard with raised and ground beds of flowers, bulbs and vegetables. The next area to be improved is the Science/ICT courtyard and the team welcomes new and existing members to join them every Wednesday 3.20pm – 4.20pm. An outdoor flower bed has been planted at the entrance steps and a wildflower patch has been prepared for planting in February with plans for two further wildflower patches at the rear of the grounds.

Representatives of the School Environmental Team, Emer Rafferty, Louise Mallon and Cathal Mallon along with staff member Damien McConville, were presented with the cheque for £500 by Mrs Sinead Taylor, Well-Being Officer with Southern Health and Social Care Trust and Mark Doran, Community Development Officer, ABC Council.
