Áine and Rebecca hit the right note!

17th Oct 2012

Year 14 students Áine Mallon and Rebecca Feeney were delighted to be selected to be part of one of Ireland’s most prestigious choirs – the Ulster Youth Choir.  During the Summer both students spent one week learning from the best, as Áine explains:

‘Rebecca and I auditioned and were selected to be part of one of Ireland’s most prestigious choirs – the Ulster Youth Choir. The aim of the Ulster Youth Choir is to provide Northern Ireland’s best young singers, aged 16-24, with an opportunity to work with and receive training from the greatest vocal coaches and conductors across the UK and Ireland. It was an intensive week of singing (9am – 9pm every day!) in an idyllic location in the Antrim Mountains. We learned so much from the staff, who are leaders in the world of choral and solo vocal singing and conducting. We then performed concerts in various locations across Northern Ireland – Stormont Parliament Buildings, Fisherwick Presbyterian Church Belfast and Armagh RC Cathedral. Our expansive repertoire included a variety of pieces both classic and contemporary including Elbow – One day like this, Leonard Cohen – Hallelujah, Ihr Musici – Hassler and music by ‘The Vocal Orchestra’ along with many other wonderful pieces (recordings of which are available on YouTube and SoundCloud).
Both Rebecca and I are extremely grateful to St Patrick’s High School for the financial assistance that enabled us to partake in an experience of a lifetime’.
